Press Release-Sept./11/2000

International Brotherhood Of Magicians

Ring 49, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

It is with great pleasure and pride that I announce the addition of the name Doug Henning to our magic club. The Hamilton Ring(club) 49 of the IBM, will now be known as The Doug Henning Magic Wand Club. This honour is being bestowed for Mr Henning's outstanding contribution to the Art of Magic and to his support of Ring 49 and the IBM. The honour was suggested by IBM Ring 49 member Nick Sacco and spearheaded in a club vote.

In a phone conversation September 8th, 2000 with Debby Henning, Doug's widow, Debby said, "I would be honoured if you called your club The Doug Henning Magic Wand club. It's really beautiful and I'm very very proud of this and thanks for honouring Duggy and giving him this great honour. Lots and lots of Love and prosperity for you and all of the magicians who belong to The Doug Henning Magic Wand Club. It's very very beautiful and thank you so much."

Debby also said, "Duggy was starting to get interested in magic again and he was going to many magic shops purchasing props so that he could use them when he got better." Mr Henning passed away February 7, 2000 after suffering from liver cancer for five months, he was 52 years old.

Doug Henning was a member of IBM Ring 49 while attending McMaster University in Hamilton where he graduated with an Honours B.Sc. in Physiological Psychology before going on to obtain a doctoral degree in the Science of Creative Intelligence from Maharishi European Research University, Switzerland.

Henning is best known for his Magic specials on TV and in Canada, his exceptional show at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, the first Rock Magical Musical Spellbound, broke every box office record at the Royal Alexandra. This allowed Doug to bring his show to Broadway with a new version called The Magic Show, which ran for four and a half years and became one of the longest running musicals in Broadway's history.

Most recently Mr Henning had incorporated his new generation of magic into Veda Land, a theme park he designed in collaboration with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and with more than 20 of the leading theme park, construction, engineering, and architectural firms. Veda Land was slated to open in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. His last wish was that work continue to finance and construct this theme park and destination resort.
