Hello, I am Scott Hood (aka: Scott The Magical Guy) The President of The Doug Henning Magic Wand Club for 2008 – 09.

The first time I saw a person perform magic was in 1960. Bob Keeshan (Captain Kangaroo) was appearing at Massey Hall. Following the show I lined up to get an autograph. As I was passing him my pencil and paper, he reached forward and pulled a coin from my ear!  In 1965 I saw my first magician at a Father and Son banquet for our cub pack. In 1968 I received “Dante’s Magic Set of 101 Magic Tricks”, and I was hooked. Between 1968 and 1984 I dabbled in magic and picked up tricks from the toy department at Eaton’s Department Store.

While on a cruise in 1985 I struck up a conversation with Jeff Evenson and his wife Tessa, the ships’ magic act. Jeff gave me the contact at a magic shop in Toronto. Ever since then I have been haunting the magic shops in Toronto and I discovered the joy of entertaining people with the art of magic.

The upcoming season is going to very exciting. We will be trying some new activities as well as some of the perennial favorites of the club. We will be holding our annual club auction as well as hosting our annual FFFF lecture in the spring. Ring 49 will be going back to its roots. We are working on a Ring exchange with another local ring. Late in the fall we will be holding a theme night. This year the theme is Packet and Pocket Tricks to share with the club. One big event we are working on is a Christmas Charity Show to raise funds for one of the local Hamilton Charities. One of the most popular evenings is the Dealer Demo night. And, 2008 will be no exception. As we have a large portion of our membership as either professional or semi-professional magicians, we will be hosting an evening to talk about the “Business Of Magic”. The year will wrap up with a family night where all the members are encouraged to get up and perform for the family and friends of the club members.

If you are in the Hamilton area on the second Tuesday of the month, please come join us. I guarantee a warm welcome will be waiting for you.

Scott Hood
President
2008-2009 I.B.M. Ring 49
